Burton on Trent-based Project Solar UK claim to be the UK’s number one solar installation company.
They have a number of solar products, including Project EV, EVO Ultramax, and a home energy storage unit through Duracell.
Their CEO, Simon Peat states –
I founded Project Solar UK Ltd back in 2010, with the dream to establish solar power as the UK’s green energy solution alternative to the current polluting energy providers within the UK.
Project Solar UK works with sales agents/employees who approach individuals in order to sell solar panels for their property. They often use high-pressure selling techniques in order to make their sales, something which is common in the mis-selling of products.
Agents will advise individuals to purchase and install solar panels at their property and are advised that the benefits of the solar panels will outweigh the costs involved in their purchase.
Project Solar UK “Self-Funding” Solar Panels
Individuals are advised by the agents that the “panels would pay for themselves”. This will be achieved through two channels –
- Cutting existing energy bills
- The possibility of generating income from the solar panels
The first is in relation to the claims that the most common solar panel in UK homes is a 3.5kWp system. This means it is potentially capable of generating approximately 3,000kWh of electricity, amounting to 75% of a typical household’s electricity consumption.
The second refers to what solar panel companies call the “Feed-In Tariff”. On top of any generation tariff, clients are advised they would receive a fixed rate for any surplus electricity that they feed back into the national grid.
However, some individuals who are sold these panels through Project Solar UK never see the potential income they are promised. They are misled in regards to how much money they could receive back and, therefore, they have been mis-sold their solar panels on the promise that they will perform much better than they eventually do.
