Vauxhall owners could be entitled to thousands in dieselgate compensation after allegations have surfaced that the car manufacturer have lied about their diesel emissions.
Reported in The Mirror, it is alleged that Vauxhall have installed so-called “defeat devices” into their vehicles in order to pass emissions tests, leading to far higher emissions when driven on the road by their customers. Vauxhall have denied all claims, while also recalling 500,000 vehicles in the UK.
This potential deceit from Vauxhall may have led to much higher amounts of a dangerous pollutant, Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) being pumped into UK air, and could also have affected fuel economy of the vehicles – hurting the environment and your pocket.
Similar dieselgate cases have already been lodged against Volkswagen and Mercedes. Now, UK Vauxhall owners can potentially claim compensation for this deceit.
Claim Experts have a team of diesel emissions advisors who can hold Vauxhall to account and help you bring a claim for compensation for this potential lie. If you would like to register your interest, or find out if you are eligible to claim, get in touch today.
What is the Vauxhall Emissions Scandal?
Vauxhall has found itself embroiled in its own dieselgate scandal after the German Transport Authority, KBA, discovered software installed in their vehicles which is designed to cheat diesel emission tests. Since then, 500,000 Vauxhall vehicles have been recalled in the UK alone. Reports suggest that up to 600,000 cars sold to UK drivers over a 10-year period may have been installed with defeat devices.
The software, often called a defeat device, works by reducing emissions in diesel vehicles whilst in regulatory test conditions. This misrepresents the actual emissions output in real-world driving. Similar sorts of devices have been found in Volkswagen diesel vehicles, where some cars emitted almost 40 times the permitted US levels of nitrogen oxides. Volkswagen have since paid out billions in compensation and fines.
The defeat device in question understands when it is being tested and limits engine performance in order to reduce emissions output. Once the vehicle is driven outside of test conditions, it maintains optimal performance and pumps out unlawful amounts of NOx.
NOx is a dangerous polluting gas that contributes respiratory diseases, cancer, acid rain and smog. NOx causes an estimated 40,000 premature deaths in the UK each year.
